ChalkSpin legal
Privacy Policy
What ChalkSpin collects, why, and your choices. The short answer: your wheel entries stay in your browser unless you save them to an account, and accounts are for adults only.
The short version
- Wheel entries, class lists and settings stay in your browser unless you save them to an account.
- Share links carry your entries after the # in the link, which browsers never send to our server.
- Accounts are for adults (18+). There are no student accounts, and ChalkSpin is not directed at children.
- We show Google ads and use Google Analytics; you can change both on Your Privacy Choices at any time.
- We don't sell your personal information or use saved class lists for advertising.
- Payments go through Stripe; we never see your card number.
Who we are
ChalkSpin (chalkspin.com) makes free classroom tools: a spinner wheel, name picker, group generator, number generator, timer, stopwatch and bingo card generator. ChalkSpin is a Tayari Labs product. It is run by Fijara LLC, an Oregon limited liability company.
This policy explains what information ChalkSpin handles, why, who helps us handle it, and the choices you have. Questions go to support@chalkspin.com.
Using the free tools (no account)
You can use every free tool without signing up. The names, words and numbers you type, your wheel settings, spin history, theme and sound choices are kept in your own browser (local storage), not on our servers.
- Share and embed links carry your entries inside the link, after the
#. Browsers never send that part of a link to a server, so we don't receive it. Anyone you give the link to can see the entries, so share it only with people who should see them. - Bingo PDFs are made in your browser. Your words are not uploaded.
- To clear what a tool remembers, use its Clear button or clear this site's data in your browser settings.
Like every website, our servers receive basic technical information when your browser asks for a page: your IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time. We use it to deliver the page, keep the service secure (for example, to slow down abusive traffic) and fix problems.
If you create an account
Accounts are optional and only for adults (18+). They let you save wheels and class lists, buy Pro or bingo credits, and use them on any device. We keep:
- your email address, and the sign-in method you use (an emailed sign-in link, or Sign in with Google);
- if you use Google: the basic profile Google shares (your name, email address and profile picture). We don't get your Google password or access to your Gmail, Drive or contacts;
- the wheels and class lists you choose to save, with their titles, entries, weights and settings;
- your plan (free or Pro), credit balance and purchase history;
- account settings and dates such as when you joined and last signed in.
A saved wheel's short link works for anyone who has it. Saved class lists stay private to your account. You can edit or delete any saved item at any time, and you can delete your whole account in Account settings.
Payments
Pro and bingo credit packs are paid through Stripe on Stripe's own checkout page. Your card number goes straight to Stripe; ChalkSpin never sees or stores it. Stripe tells us what you bought, the amount and whether the payment went through (and may show us limited details such as the card brand, its last four digits and the billing country), which we keep for receipts, refunds and tax records. Subscriptions are managed in Stripe's Customer Portal.
Messages, problem reports and booking requests
When you write to us (email, the contact form, "Report a problem" or an advertising booking request) we receive what you send: usually your email address, your message and, for problem reports, the page you were on. We use it only to answer you, fix the problem or handle the booking. Problem reports include the page address without the part after the #, so wheel entries are not included.
Advertising (Google AdSense)
ChalkSpin is free because most pages show ads from Google AdSense. Ads never appear in presentation mode, in wheels embedded on other websites, on a Pro member's shared wheels, or on the pricing, account, sign-in and checkout pages. Pro members see no ads anywhere on ChalkSpin.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- You can opt out of personalized advertising in Google's Ads Settings, and change your choices for ChalkSpin on Your Privacy Choices. Read how Google uses information from sites that use its services.
In the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland, advertising and analytics cookies stay off until you agree. Elsewhere, including the U.S., they're on by default and you can turn them off at any time. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we treat it as a request to opt out of personalized ads. We don't use other ad networks today. Sponsored templates from brands are labelled "Sponsored" and don't use tracking cookies.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics to count visits and see which tools people use, so we know what to improve. We send events such as "a wheel was spun" or "a bingo PDF was made", never the names, words or numbers you typed. Google Analytics follows your consent choices (Google Consent Mode). You can also block it with Google's browser add-on.
How we use information
- to run the tools and your account, including saving, syncing and sharing what you ask us to;
- to take payments, give refunds and keep the records tax law requires;
- to send account emails you need, such as sign-in links and receipts (we don't send marketing email);
- to answer messages and fix reported problems;
- to keep ChalkSpin secure and prevent abuse, such as fake sign-ups or attempts to get around limits;
- to show ads (as described above) and understand, in aggregate, how the site is used.
If you're in the EEA or the UK, our legal bases are: contract (providing your account and purchases), legitimate interests (security, fixing problems, improving the tools), consent (analytics and advertising cookies where consent is required) and legal obligation (tax and accounting records).
Children and students
ChalkSpin is a general-audience site written for teachers, trainers and families. It is not directed at children, and accounts are for adults 18 and over; there are no student accounts. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal information, write to support@chalkspin.com and we'll delete it.
Teachers often put students' names on a wheel. In the free tools those names stay in the teacher's browser. If a teacher saves a class list to their account, we store it only to provide the service to that teacher; we never contact students or use the names for ads. We suggest first names or initials, and following your school's policies on student information.
How long we keep it
- What's stored in your browser stays until you clear it.
- Your account and saved items stay until you delete them or your account. Deleted data leaves our live systems right away and our backups within 35 days.
- Purchase records are kept as long as tax and accounting rules require (usually up to seven years). When you delete your account they are separated from your profile.
- If deleting your account refunds a purchase automatically, we keep a coded fingerprint of your email address (not the address itself) for 12 months, so that a repeat refund for the same address is reviewed by a person instead of being automatic.
- Messages, problem reports and booking requests: up to 24 months.
- Server logs: up to 30 days.
Your rights and choices
Wherever you live, you can ask us to:
- tell you what personal information we hold about you and give you a copy;
- correct it;
- delete it (you can also delete your account yourself in Account settings);
- stop personalized ads and analytics cookies (on Your Privacy Choices).
U.S. state privacy laws (such as California's CCPA/CPRA) give residents rights to know, delete, correct and opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information and of targeted advertising, and protect you from being treated differently for using them. You can use an authorized agent. If we turn down a request, you can appeal by replying to our answer.
In the EEA, UK and Switzerland you also have rights to restrict or object to processing, to data portability and to withdraw consent at any time, and you can complain to your data protection authority.
To make a request, email support@chalkspin.com from the address on your account (so we can confirm it's you). We answer within 30 days, or within the time your local law sets.
Security
Every page uses HTTPS. Card details stay with Stripe. Admin access needs two-factor sign-in, secrets are kept in a secure vault, and staff access to data is limited to what's needed. No system is perfectly secure, so if you think something is wrong, tell us at support@chalkspin.com.
Where data is processed
ChalkSpin runs in the United States. If you use it from another country, your information is processed in the U.S. Our service providers protect transfers with the safeguards the law requires, such as standard contractual clauses.
Changes to this policy
When we change this policy we update the date at the top. If a change matters, such as a new kind of data or a new use for it, we'll say so on the site, and email account holders, before it takes effect.
